where is my horlicks kosong gao?

i think that singapore have really changed alot. for the better, and for the worse.

today i went for my 6am run again, around my neighbourhood. and was looking forward for my wholesome breakfast. i must say that all the traditions that i was exposed to when i was a kid were no longer there, anymore.

when the coffee auntie came, i ordered horlicks. she gave me the 'wtf' look and asked, 'the can one?' i was like no? the hot one. then she said dont have. i paused for a few seconds, lost, and said: "ok then teh o gao". i really can't believe this. for the SECOND TIME. in TWO coffeeshop, no one knew what was horlicks. =/ what happen to all the singapore tradition food/drinks.

then came my teh-o "gao". which tasted like teh-o sibei po =/ horror. then when i ordered kuay chap, i was shock when the lady said, $4. with a few pieces of beancurd, 1 egg and a few slices of large intestine. =/ what happen to all the cheap value for money traditional food at the coffeeshops?!

and guess what, the 'kopi soh' who 'served' me was from china, so did the kuay chap lady. are we invaded again?

ok. get it right people (esp tw and jac), i'm not turning into an uncle here. I'm just reminiscing the good old days, when i always had breakfast with either with my mom's auntie-friends or my dad's. when every morning is an adventure. different food every morning, and different drinks every time. from the horlicks kosong gao, to teh-o gao siu dai, those were the good ol' days of fun and good cheap food.

no offence to anyone, but i think the hongkong cafe 'xing wang' is just crap. imagine a cup of yuan yang for $2.70???? and the others were just severely overpriced. i think overprice here might be an understatement. =/

oh well, time changed. i think now my favourite place for good breakfast is still bedok food market. i'm blessed that i'm posted to changi again, then i can have my good breakfasts at bedok every morning again!

i think i need to go for a hunt for more sailor's brand kopi-o.

when the time is bad, the bad is real.

had a long conversation with my dad today after sending my bro off for enlistment.

my family now is kind of in some financial difficulty =/ the story is like this.

My dad have been in business for more than 15 years. so apparently, a few of his clients have owned him money since years ago, and i realised all these debts sum up to about $100+ K. =/ so now, short of those money at this time of the economy crisis, we still need to pay for the remaining sum of my house. which according to my dad is about 6 years if he's not wrong. but the problem is that, his CPF is almost dry (except for the medisave which has some 50+K that is untouchable). i think maybe it's time for my to use my CPF to co-own this house.

anyway, the morale of the story here. my dad always tell me since i was young, that mutual trust in people is extremely important. he, being too trusty with others, to a stage when people owe him a few hundreds thousands, then ran away in the end. leaving him with all this shit to clear up.

question here. is this the real world that we're leaving in? what happen to all the 'ideal' mutual trust and stuff? all fake? but i still do believe in people that i trust in. no matter the circumstances, they will be there for you. i hope i am still right.

conclusion from my dad: good times, people says hi; bad times, people siam. FML
